On the basis of Rayon tire yarn and polypropylene an injection-moldable reinforced commodity plastic material was developed for the application field 'Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymers and Engineering Plastics', for example PC/ABS.
Starting from cellulosic Rayon tire yarn and conventional polypropylene (PP) the basis
material PPRayCo was developed. This material shows a very high strength and is particularly
impact-resistant. Furthermore, specific modifications of the formulation allow the adaptation of
individual properties to the requirements of the planned application (see
offers). As a result, stiffness, thermostability and flame
retardancy can for instance be improved by appropriate additives and/or variation of fiber type.
A tailored choice of composition allows to keep strength and impact behavior on a high level.
Altogether the following advantages could be realized in contrast to glass fiber reinforced
PP (GFR-PP):
- Lower weight
- Improved recycling
- Improved waste disposal
- Reduced abrasive wear at the processing machines
- Increased impact strength compared to short fiber GFR-PP
- Increased strength compared to short fiber GFR-PP
